Why use the IMEXLOG Trade Quote Calculator

🧮

Correct margin math

Uses the standard trade formula: Cost ÷ (1 − Margin%), not a naive markup.

📊

Full cost coverage

Combines product, freight, insurance, duty, tax, and handling into one quote.

🎯

Per-unit pricing

Add quantity to get quote per unit — essential for wholesale and distribution.

How a trade quote is built

A trade quote combines all costs into a single number, then adds your target margin to produce a defensible selling price.

Total Cost = Product + Freight + Insurance + Duty + Tax + Handling
Quote Value = Total Cost ÷ (1 − Target Margin%)
Quote per Unit = Quote Value ÷ Quantity

The quote must also state the Incoterms — for example, "FOB Shanghai" or "CIF Rotterdam" — so the buyer knows exactly which costs are included.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Trade Quote Calculator?▾

A Trade Quote Calculator builds a preliminary international trade quote by combining product cost, freight, insurance, customs duty, taxes, handling, and your target margin. It gives you a defensible price to share with a buyer before committing to a binding offer.

How is a trade quote calculated?▾

The standard formula is: Quote = Total Cost ÷ (1 − Target Margin%). This ensures that after the margin is applied, all your costs are covered and your target profit is preserved. IMEXLOG's Trade Quote Calculator applies this formula.

What is included in a trade quote?▾

A complete trade quote includes the product value, international freight, insurance, customs duty, VAT/GST, customs brokerage, port handling, and any other destination fees. It also states the Incoterms (EXW, FOB, CIF, DDP, etc.) under which the price applies.

Is the Trade Quote Calculator free?▾

Yes, the IMEXLOG Trade Quote Calculator is completely free with no sign-up required. If you need a professional report with a full breakdown and reference number, you can optionally purchase one for $4.99.

What is included in the Professional Trade Quote Report?▾

The Professional Trade Quote Report includes the full cost breakdown by category, target margin, gross profit, preliminary quote value, per-unit pricing, margin scenarios at 10%–60%, and a unique reference number. It is saved to your IMEXLOG account.

Should my trade quote include Incoterms?▾

Yes. Every trade quote should state the Incoterms (e.g., FOB Shanghai, CIF Rotterdam, DDP Lagos). This defines what costs are included — freight, insurance, duty — and where risk transfers. Use the IMEXLOG Incoterms Guide to select the right one.

How do I handle currency in a trade quote?▾

Quote in a single currency and state it clearly. If your costs are in multiple currencies, convert them all to your quote currency first using the IMEXLOG Currency Calculator. Include a currency clause in the quote if the exchange rate risk is significant.

Is a trade quote binding?▾

No — a preliminary quote produced by this calculator is not binding. A binding quote must be issued by a qualified trade professional, valid for a specific period, and subject to confirmed rates, customs treatment, and shipment details.
