Volumetric Weight Calculator
Calculate dimensional weight and compare it with actual cargo weight.
Shipment details
Enter the dimensions of one package, package count, and total weight.
Total gross weight of all packages in kilograms.
Use your carrier's divisor — it varies by service. 5000 for express, 6000 for standard air freight.
Dimensional Weight Results
Divisor used: 5000 — Express courier / parcel services. Confirm with your carrier before relying on this estimate.

Why use the IMEXLOG Volumetric Weight Calculator
Chargeable weight clarity
See exactly which weight applies — actual or volumetric — with a clear rationale.
Divisor reference built-in
Standard carrier divisors listed inline — no guessing which number to use.
Density analysis
See cargo density in kg/m³ — the key indicator of whether your cargo is dense or bulky.
How volumetric weight works
Carriers bill light but bulky cargo by volumetric weight — a weight equivalent calculated from the space the cargo occupies.
The divisor is set by the carrier and varies by service. A smaller divisor means a higher volumetric weight (and a higher bill). For example, at divisor 5000, 1 m³ = 200 kg. At divisor 6000, 1 m³ = 167 kg.

Frequently asked questions
What is volumetric weight?▾
Volumetric weight (also called dimensional weight or DIM weight) is a calculation that converts the space a package occupies into a comparable weight. Carriers use it to price light but bulky cargo that takes up more space than its weight would justify.
How is volumetric weight calculated?▾
Volumetric weight = (Length × Width × Height in cm × Number of packages) ÷ Volumetric divisor. The divisor is set by the carrier — 5000 for most express courier services, 6000 for standard international air freight, and 4000 for some Asian carriers.
What divisor should I use?▾
For express courier (DHL, FedEx, UPS), use 5000. For standard international air freight, use 6000. For some regional Asian carriers, use 4000. Always confirm the divisor with your carrier before relying on the calculation.
Is the Volumetric Weight Calculator free?▾
Yes, the IMEXLOG Volumetric Weight Calculator is completely free with no sign-up required. If you need a professional report with a detailed breakdown and reference number, you can optionally purchase one for $4.99.
What is included in the Professional Volumetric Weight Report?▾
The Professional Volumetric Weight Report includes package dimensions, volume, volumetric weight, actual weight, chargeable weight, divisor used, and a unique reference number. It is saved to your IMEXLOG account.
What is the difference between volumetric weight and chargeable weight?▾
Volumetric weight is the dimensional weight of the cargo. Chargeable weight is the weight the carrier bills you on — it is the greater of volumetric weight and actual weight. If the cargo is dense, actual weight prevails; if bulky, volumetric weight prevails.
Does volumetric weight apply to sea freight?▾
Volumetric weight is primarily used for air freight and express courier. Sea freight LCL is usually priced by cubic meter (CBM), not by volumetric weight. For FCL shipments, the container price is fixed regardless of volume used.
Does the calculator work on mobile?▾
Yes. The IMEXLOG Volumetric Weight Calculator is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops. It is also available inside the IMEXLOG mobile app.
